across the South West

Welcome to SWTSA

Teaching schools provide the opportunity for all schools to learn from the very best.  They have a leading role in the training and professional development of teachers, support staff and headteachers, as well as contributing to the raising of standards through school-to-school support.

The South West Teaching School Alliance (SWTSA) was one of the first cohort of 100 schools to be designed as a Teaching School in September 2011 and is led jointly by Ivybridge Community College and Kingsbridge Community College.

SWTSA has three main aims:

  • To support all SWTSA schools in maximising progress for all students

  • To promote high quality Initial Teacher Training (ITT) within SWTSA schools

  • To develop teaching and leadership skills more generally across the SWTSA network.

SWSTA membership is drawn from across Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Higher Education Institutions, HEIs in the South West.  Many SWTSA school members also sign up as Challenge Partners.
